  1. Horsfield’s tortoises are also known as Russian tortoises or Central Asian tortoises.
  2. They are herbivores and should eat leafy plants, weeds and flowers rather than fruit or human food.
  3. They can hibernate during colder months when conditions are right.
  4. They are strong diggers and often make burrows to escape heat or cold.
  5. Their scientific name honours naturalist Thomas Horsfield.
